Municipal Assembly appeals for Grant

Madam Stella Amoatemaa, Nkoranza Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to intervene for consideration of the Assembly as beneficiary of the Urban Development Grant (UDG) for developmental purposes.

The UDG is specifically arranged under the Metropolitan/Municipal/District Assemblies (MMDAs) Concept by the Central Government for carrying out development programmes in areas elevated from District to Municipal status.

Madam Amoatemaa made the appeal through Mr. Inusa Fuseini, the Minister for Roads and Highways, on Thursday when the latter visited Nkoranza to cut the sod for the rehabilitation of some roads in the township.

She lamented that since Nkoranza South was elevated to Municipality status in 2012, the Assembly had never benefited from the UDG, despite several efforts made by its Management to be included in the sharing of such a “national cake”.

Madam Amoatemaa, therefore, pleaded with Alhaji Collins Dauda, the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, to present their case to Cabinet and the Managers of the UDG, to consider the plight of the Nkoranza Municipality, for them to benefit from the grant for the area's development.

The construction of the Nkoranza township roads, covering a distance of five kilometres would cost GHC5,311,321.50, she said.

Madam Amoatemaa mentioned the Lordina Mahama-Guakro-Asuoso road, the ‘A’ Line and Methodist Mission, Breman Town Street, Dero Junction, Nation Builders International and the Zongo-Islamic Community School roads as those targeted under the programme.
