Murder suspect placed in custody

Gomoa Mapong, C/R, March 7, GNA - The Police are holding a suspect in custody over the death of the late Kwesi Antwi a 48-year old farmer killed at Gomoa Mapong last month.

ASP William Morttey, Crime Officer of the Swedru Division of the Ghana Police Service who disclosed this to the GNA at Agona Swedru said the name of the suspect was being withheld for security reasons. In a development, the Chiefs and the people of the town have denied that they were connected with the murder of the late Kwesi Antwi. Mr Francis Arthur, stool secretary speaking to the Ghana New Agency said it was unfortunate that the death of the farmer had been linked to the death of Nana Osam Kuma II, Omankrado of Mapong who also died last month.

He said they were law abiding people who would not indulge in the "barbaric" act of "slaughtering a human being" when a chief died. The Chiefs appealed to the people in the area to be bold in assisting the Police to apprehend the culprit to face the consequences instead of attempts to link Late Kwesi Antwi's murder to the Omankrado's death. The Police told GNA that last month the late Antwi went to Gomoa Kokofu to visit his sister in the evening and his body was found on the Kokofu/Mapong road the next morning.
