Muslims in Sunyani celebrate Eidil ul Adha

Sunyani, Jan. 20, GNA - Thousands of Muslims in the Sunyani municipality on Thursday converged at the Coronation Park in Sunyani to say prayers to mark the celebration of the Eidil ul Adha festival. Alhaji Omar Abdul Kadir, Brong Ahafo regional Chief Imam, who led them in prayers, emphasized the need for both Muslims and Christians to strive for peace and unity in the society.

He urged the Muslim youth to eschew acts that went contrary to the teachings of the Holy Quran and to assist the government to steer the nation into prosperity.

Mr Yaw Adjei-Duffour, Deputy Regional Minister, thanked Muslims for their prayers that helped in the success of the December elections and expressed the hope that religious bodies would continue to pray for the nation's accelerated growth.

On behalf of the Regional Co-ordinating Council, the Deputy Minister presented a sheep and one million cedis in support of the celebration of the Festival of Sacrifice.

In another development, Sheik Ibrahim Acquah, Missionary in charge of the Ahmadiyya Movement in Fiapre, near Sunyani in an interview stressed the need for Muslims to use the celebration of the festival to exhibit love and unity to each other and to all other persons as required by the Holy Quran.
