Takoradi, Oct 23, GNA - Muslims have been called upon to collaborate with other religious institutions in the country to check growing incidents of immorality especially among the youth. Mr Anthony Evans Amoah, Western Regional Minister, who made the call, also stressed the need for cooperation between the Muslim community and the government for successful implementation of policies and programmes to enhance the country's growth.
He was addressing hundreds of Muslims in Takoradi on Monday during prayers to mark the end of Ramadan.
The Regional Minister asked them to use the Ramadan to reflect on the past and chart a new course that would enhance society's growth. He said the occasion should also afford Muslim the opportunity to renew their spirituality with Allah and fortify them to stand against all temptations.
Mr Amoah urged parents to work hard to reform the waywardness of their children to check vices in the society such as sexual promiscuity and the use of drugs.
He asked Muslims to pray for the sustenance of the existing peace and harmony among the people and also for national prosperity. On behalf of the government, he presented three million cedis to the Muslims to support the celebration of the festival.
Sheik Shaibu Awal, Chief Imam of Takoradi, led the Muslims to pray for peace and prosperity for the country.
Addressing Ahmadiyya Muslims at the Takoradi Polytechnic Park at Effiakuma New Site near Takoradi, Mrs Nancy Zah, Deputy Regional Coordinating Director, said Ahmadis have a role to play in correcting wrongs in the society.
She appealed to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission to collaborate with other religious bodies to assist in arresting moral decadence in the society.
"I wish to appeal especially to parents and guardians to take the moral training of their children seriously so that they will have the right orientation and for that matter, avoid a lot of deviant behaviour that some of our youth and even adults put up".
She urged Muslims to take advantage of the Capitation Grant and send their wards to school and make sure they stay in school to the appropriate point where they can conveniently terminate their education. Mrs Zah asked Muslims to use the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr to reflect on the achievement or otherwise of the nation in the past 50 years.
"If we believe we have not achieved enough, (then) each of us would have to make a new resolve to serve Ghana better so that in the next 50 years posterity will have something to be proud of and bless us for". Maulvi Naveed Ahmad Aadil, Regional Missionary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, advised Muslims to lead exemplary lives for people to appreciate the teachings of Islam.
"In your daily dealings be mindful of the teachings of Islam to safeguard the good name of the religion."
Maulvi Aadil said Muslims should not revert to bad habits after the celebration but to continue to practice the good things they learnt during the fasting. 23 Oct. 06
