Muslims urged to help transform society

Dr Mahmoud A. Mahmoud, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School, has urged Muslims to help transform society to fast track development through strategic planning.

He said Muslims were never backward as some perceived because God has given them talents.

Thus, it was important they used their talents to achieve the development they yearned for.

Dr Mahmoud gave the advice at the 27th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Ghana Association of Muslim Professionals (GAMP) and launch of the Association's 2020 programmes in Accra.

It was on the theme: "Leadership, Sharing Vision".

He said with proper planning the Zongo communities could be transformed to nurture the best professionals.

Speaking on the topic: 'Muslims in Ghana and Strategic Planning,' Dr Mahmoud said there was the need for a strategy in everything one did.

"As Muslims, without a strategic plan you cannot achieve the here and the hereafter," he stated.

Schooling participants on the basic steps to put a good strategic plan in place, he urged Muslims to always ensure that their plans had vision, were flexible, served as guide for decision making, addressed critical performance issues and created a balance between capability and want.

Dr Mahmoud advised participants to effectively implement their strategic plans guided by the five pillars of Islam to ensure they achieved their purpose per the dictates of the Religion.

Hajj Anderson, the President of GAMP, in his annual report, commended members for their sacrifices, which had sustained the Association, adding, however, that much more was needed to carry out its mandate.

He said even though the Association had been doing well on its own, it faced financial challenges and called for philanthropic support.

He urged the Muslim youth not to allow politicians to use them as conduits of confusion in the coming elections.

The GAMP, in 2020, would be organising its annual vacation school, Ramadan Lectures, quarterly public lectures, Sisters Forum, and the Prisoners Reformation Programme among other activities.
