Muslims urged to lead exemplary lives

Techiman (B/A), May 21, GNA - Muslims have been advised to eschew ethnicity, tribalism and religious intolerance since all people are equal before Allah.

Maulvi Yusuf Bin Sali, Brong-Ahafo Regional Missionary of the Ahmadiyya Muslims Mission gave the advice at the opening of the 27th annual regional conference of the Mission at Techiman.

The two-day conference, on the theme: "Islam and peaceful co-existence", is attended by more than 5,000 delegates from the nine circuits in the Region.

"In Islam all people are equal before Allah the creator", Maulvi Bin Sali explained saying tribalism and religious intolerance bred conflicts that led to unnecessary loss of lives and property.

"In the state of conflict, law and order breaks down and this leads to the denial of people's rights to worship Allah in peace", he said. The Regional Missionary entreated Muslims not to engage in acts that were likely to foment conflicts in the communities. He charged married couples to inculcate the teaching of Islam in their children, whom he advised not to shirk their responsibilities to their parents.

Maulvi Bin Sali expressed the hope that the delegates would use the conference to rekindle their faith in Allah for their spiritual growth and the well being of the people.

Mr Abdulai Ibrahim, the new Circuit Missionary for Zezera in a recitation from the Holy Quran exhorted Muslims to live in peace with one another as Islam demanded.

Mr Unas Owusu, Assembly Member for Ahenebronosu electoral area in Techiman municipality and Brong-Ahafo Regional President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission called on the delegates to abide by the teachings of Islam and lead exemplary lives.

He urged the delegates not to view the conference as just an annual ritual but as an occasion for the renewal of Islamic values. Alhaji Haruna Bin Sali, Brong-Ahafo Regional Marriage Secretary of the Mission speaking on: "Islamic marriage" advised Muslims to avoid pre-marital sex but to go through the process of "Walima".
