My defeat at polls will be an act of God - Minister

The Upper West Regional Minister and incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Sissala West Constituency Alhaji Amidu Sulemana, has revealed that should he lose his seat during the forthcoming parliamentary contest, he will consider it as an act of God.

“If I don’t win the elections I will consider it as an act of God like the same way I surrendered when in 2004 to Hon. Bayiriga who won with about six votes. I walked up to him and told him that’s the decision of the people and will of God, you are our MP”, he revealed.

The former Ghanaian Diplomat, Mechanical Engineer and Development Consultant captured the seat from the People’s National Convention’s (PNC) Haruna Bayiriga in 2008 and has held it till date.

He disclosed at a constituency parliamentary debate organized by the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), that he is willing to accept the outcome of the elections and urged his colleagues to do same.

The minister bemoaned the situation where school leavers are reluctant in going into farming under the claim it is for the illiterates indicating that it is an erroneous impression created by many.

According to him, there seems to be no link between farming and schooling which is why the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party manifesto captures farming as part of education.

“I farmed during all my educational days until I completed university; I stayed and farmed in the community until my national service”

He has therefore urged all to embrace farming as government continues to support with subsidies and other interventions.
