The Member of Parliament for North Tongu constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has disclosed that his recent exposés have saved Ghana US$1.3 billion (GH¢20.2 billion).

In an X post on August 6, 2024, Okudzeto Ablakwa listed 10 issues that he has brought to light, which were initially oversighted by Parliament.

According to the lawmaker, Ghana has saved an amount of US$400 million in the National Cathedral project alone, while the SSNIT hotels saga has saved the country US$121 million.

Other exposés listed include the ambulance spare parts deal, transaction levy services, and the West Blue deal, among many others.

Background

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has recently embarked on exposing some murky deals and projects under the ruling government.

In one of his exposés on the ambulance spare parts deal, Ablakwa raised an alarm over possible corruption, prompting him to petition the Office of the Special Prosecutor for an investigation.

According to Ablakwa's allegations, the finance minister hastily approved the deal five days before his removal from office and claimed that $10 million had already been paid to the company.

However, the Ministry of Health clarified that the contract was originally signed by the now-defunct Ministry of Special Development Initiatives with Service Auto Group Ghana Limited.

The contract covered after-sales service and maintenance for 307 Mercedes Benz Sprinter 315 CDI ambulances secured by the government in 2019.
