My ‘financial magician’ cousin doing a yeoman’s job – Akufo-Addo hails Ofori-Atta

Ken Ofori-Atta, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, Finance Minister

President Akufo-Addo has praised Finance Minister and his cousin, Ken Ofori-Atta as a very competent, highly qualified and hardworking investment expert doing a yeoman’s job for the country.

“I’m very (very) satisfied with the work that he is doing. He is not there because he is my cousin... he is a very capable man, the first investment banker in our country, built a very successful business and he is extremely highly regarded in the world of finance and the investment community in here in Ghana and across the world, and I believe he is doing a Yeoman’s job for this country so I don’t have any difficulty with that,” he told the journalists.

In a media encounter at the seat of government in Accra on Friday, he reiterated the fact that he is not presiding over a government of family and friends.

“I’m not presiding over a government of family and friends, yes, one or two members of my family are in there...Ofori-Atta who is the Minister for Finance is my cousin, he happened also at the time to have been the person responsible for the NPP fundraising drive, nobody made any criticism of him when he was in that position...I don’t think it is so difficult for somebody who has been a fundraiser to transition into a Finance Minister, apart from anything else, as far as I am concerned he is amazingly capable, he has been like a magician,” he said.

The President made the comment during his encounter with the Media at the Jubilee House on Friday while answering a question on claims by the opposition NDC party that he’s running a family and friends government.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has asked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to sack the Finance Minister severally.

According to the NDC, sacking Mr Ken Ofori Atta as Finance Minister was a sure way to solving the PDS saga among other pressing issues.

The General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah said this at a press conference in Accra in October.
