My first 6 months has been eventful - Nana Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has described his first six months (6) in office as eventful one.

In his opening remarks at his maiden media encounter, the president said, the encounter was not organized for him to blow his trumpet or give a state of the nation rather account to Ghanaians and give the media the opportunity to engage with him.

He however stated that the media has not been circumspect in their reportage with regards to the activities of political party vigilante groups.

Ghanaians deserve to know what we are doing and why we are doing it and how that would lead to the betterment of lives.

He said, ‘’half way into my first year in office, it is good to take stock of what has happened and the way forward. This forum is not intended to give another message on the State of the Nation, neither is it to announce my achievements. It is guided, rather, by the principle of accountability.’’

The president also commented over what he described as irresponsible reportage from a section of the media saying: ‘’even though I have been one of the greatest victims of the irresponsible section of the media, i.e those who have specialized in spewing calumnies, falsehoods and outright fabrications against my person, I do not regret one bit my role in repealing that old, discredited law.’’

He added, ‘’I much prefer the noisy, boisterous, sometimes scurrilous media of today to the monotonous, praise-singing, sycophantic one of yesteryear. The Ghanaian media has in fact, enriched the nation’s governance by its persistence, curiosity and investigative skills.’’
