The Northern Region Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, says his life is being threatened after it came out over the week that the president had bribed him.

The NPP in a press conference on Tuesday, November 29 revealed that President John Dramani Mahama and his brother, Ibrahim, gave Mr Naabu GH¢500,000 to blackmail his party’s presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, of hating northerners.

Mr Naabu, a day after the NPP’s conference, confirmed that he was given the said money and a V6 Mitsubishi and had been promised an additional GH¢3.3 million and aV8 Land Cruise if he prosecuted the deal.

Speaking on TV3’s New Day on Saturday, December 3, Mr Naabu repeated that what was given to him “is not anything than bribe”.

He has said that the president himself was involved.

“He [Mahama] himself told me that, I was having some cars, Motorolas and others the day he was presenting the 500,000 to me and the car, so what is he talking about? What are they talking about?”

But he said his life is being threatened as a result of the development.

“They are threatening my life,” he said via a disruptive phone line on the weekend news analysis programme.

Calls have been made for the police to start investigations into the matter, without provocation.

Others have also called for the arrest of Mr Naabu.
