Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has assured that his presidency will be committed to the passage of the Representation of the People Amendment Act (ROPAA).

Addressing supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the USA at their 30th anniversary celebration, he underscored the significance of tapping into the human resources of diasporans for the development of the country if the act is passed.

“We are putting in the structures, and I am very committed to doing it, and I think the country will benefit a lot from the human capital in the diaspora. We will allow all diasporas to compete in all positions that are available in Ghana,” he disclosed.

The flagbearer of the NPP urged supporters of the party in the diaspora to join the campaign and work tirelessly to ensure that the party breaks the 8 in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

“The continuous support of NPP-USA and all other external branches will even be more crucial as we seek to break the 8 and continue with our transformational vision for Ghana in the 4th Industrial Revolution,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia, who was the Special Guest of Honor, indicated that the NPP-USA branch, from its difficult beginning in the early 1990s, when the country transitioned from military rule to the 4th Republic, has grown to become a vibrant external branch of the NPP, and its support and contributions to the party cannot be underestimated.

“The founders of the NPP-USA served and sacrificed for the party in so many ways. The NPP-USA has become so formidable within the NPP structure, and you have done so well. You committed and did so much for the party and helped us entrench democracy in Ghana,” he stated.

He congratulated all the branch’s founders for their bold initiative, as well as all those who have played diverse roles in the success of NPP-USA, which now has 27 active chapters across the USA.
