My removal as Chief Whip has lifted a huge burden off me; I'm not bitter - Muntaka

The former Minority Chief Whip, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has stated that he harbors no bitterness after being relieved of his position in Parliament by his party.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Asawase Constituency and former member of Parliament's leadership, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed, described the process of his removal in 2023, along with the then Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, as a "coup d’état." He believes the manner and procedure through which the party leadership implemented the decision were disrespectful to both him and Haruna Iddrisu.

Muntaka revealed that he was neither formally nor informally informed about their removal, only learning of it through a radio broadcast.

In a recent interview with Starr News, monitored by GhanaWeb, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka disclosed that being relieved of his leadership duties has actually eased a significant burden. He stressed that he has no reason to feel bitter about the decision, as it was taken in the interest of the party.

"Believe me, God is my witness. I am at complete peace with myself. Sometimes, you don’t realize the burden you are carrying until it is lifted off you. It is also beneficial to observe from afar and see how things unfold. Nevertheless, it was an opportunity, except that we disagreed with the way it was handled. Other than that, from the very day we assumed those offices, we knew there would come a day when we would have to leave.

"You have former leaders of the House, like Avoka, Rashid Pelpuo, and others, who have experienced this. So why should I be bitter? Our concerns were solely about how the process was handled. Aside from that, we are fine. Everyone is working within their constituency, not only to maintain their seat but also to support other MPs who may be vulnerable and in need of assistance."
