N/R NDC suspends two positions over court case

The Northern Regional branch of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended two of its major positions from being contested in region due to a court injunction.

The two positions – Regional Secretary and Organizer positions were suspended because two aspirants vying for those positions claim they were wrongfully disqualified from the race.

Mohammed Aliu, the disqualified regional secretary aspirant, accused the NDC’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia of deliberately disqualifying him to favour a preferred candidate.

He also criticized the NDC leadership for organizing the vetting in the region amidst a heavy military presence.

The NDC’s constituency elections also faced similar court cases. Meanwhile, the party is currently holding its Northern Regional Congress in Tamale.

About 348 delegates from 31 constituencies are expected to take part in the exercise.

Prior to the congress on Saturday, the NDC on Friday elected its Northern Regional Youth Organizer.

The incumbent regional Organizer, Adam Mohammed Amin Abio retained his position by polling 62 votes out of the total votes cast.
