Tamale, Aug.23, GNA – The Northern Regional Police Command in collaboration with the military has increased the number of personnel on the Tamale-Bolgatanga highway as part of measures to curb the increasing rate of highway robbery.
The command has also intensified patrols and created more check points on the roads especially at robbery prone areas and pledged to continue to escort buses travelling from Tamale to Bolgatanga.
These were contained in a press statement signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police George Tuffour, and made available to the Ghana News Agency in Tamale on Tuesday.
The statement said the command had also put similar measures in place on the Bole-Bamboi, Buipe-Tamale and Buipe-Mpaha roads to ensure maximum security on these roads and appealed to drivers to comply with the police to ensure the safety of travellers.
The statement said it hoped these measures would help prevent the occurrence of armed attacks on the road and implored drivers and passengers to be patient with the police as these measures are likely to cause some inconvenience.
It urged travellers to be security conscious and take note of passengers aboard buses who might be communicating with persons outside the bus for possible attacks and report such persons at the nearest security check points.
