N/R schools need 50,000 beds and mattresses

Tamale, Dec. 12, GNA - The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) is considering a proposal from heads of secondary schools in the Northern Region to provide them with 50,000 beds and mattresses for the 37 senior secondary schools to help address their accommodation problem.

Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, Northern Regional Minister, announced this in Tamale on Monday at a function where the wife of the Vice-President, Hajia Ramatu Mahama, presented a number of dual desks to Rama Foundation, an international Islamic School and Vocational Institute. Alhaji Idris, who is also the Board Chairman of the GETFund said the creation of the new districts throughout the country required additional establishment of schools, which needed to be well furnished to enhance teaching and learning.

He said it was the responsibility of the Fund to respond positively to the needs of schools throughout the country to improve educational standards.

He announced that the Fund would make available some 21,000-dual desks for distribution to basic and secondary schools to facilitate teaching and learning.

He noted the achievements of the Fund, saying the Northern Region had benefited immensely from its interventions and gave the assurance that the GETfund would do all that it could to address the problems of education in the country.
