NAACP honored Grace Adowa Imo, a Ghanaian Radio presenter in New York

Grace Adowa Imo, a young and dynamic Radio presenter in New York has been awarded by the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) branch in the Bronx, New York. Grace happened to be the first and only African and Ghanaian for that matter in New York to ever receive such a prestigious American national award.

She has been dedicated and committed community activist for many years in the Bronx. Grace migrated to United States of America since 2003, and she lived in Manhattan until 2006 when she discovered that majority of immigrants live in the Bronx, especially those from Ghana, so she moved to the Bronx in early 2007. Grace has a higher drive when it comes to community development, she joined other community leaders to help facilitate community development programs. In 2013 she was honored by the board of Africans of the Diaspora Youth Sport Club (ADYSC) and received a medal from New York Police Department(NYPD) Police Commissioner, Raymond Kelly. She also received a proclamation award by the Bronx Borough President, Ruben Diaz in 2013. And in 2012, she was appointed Vice-President of Africans of the Diaspora Youth Sports Club. Under her leadership, the club won NYPD Soccer Championship for three consecutive years. Also in 2010, Grace was honored as outstanding youth leader in the greater New York SDA (Seventh Day Adventist).

Due to Grace’s zeal in community development, she initiated a once a month program called "Abrokyre Nsem" or “Diaspora Matters”. This program helps inform people of the community about events and where they take place.

By popular request, Grace went the extra mile to air a new program on Radio, "Grace Imo Talk Show", a weekly radio Talk-Show, that showcases personalities, and brings together issues, news and views about Africans on the continent and Africans in the Diaspora every Saturday from 8:30pm to 10pm and Sundays from 4:30pm to 6: pm.
