NAGRAT members at Jachie-Pramso call off strike action

Jachie (Ash.), June 8, GNA - Members of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) at the Jachie-Pramso Secondary School have decided to end their strike action and to resume work. Mr Richmond Oteng, the Spokesperson, who broke the news to the Ghana News Agency, said the decision followed a meeting held with them by the Headmaster, Nana Minta-Afari Bowak. He said though they were not happy with the manner the Government was handling issues raised by NAGRAT, they were touched by the plight of their students to go back to the classroom.

Mr Oteng said it was important for the Government to move quickly to resolve the impasse for the sake of students particularly those in final year, whose future was hanging perilously in the balance. Miss Leticia Dawson, the School's Prefect, praised the teachers for their bold decision and appealed to the Association to call off the nationwide action.

The present final year Senior Secondary School students had to rewrite their Basic Education Certificate Examinations, when their papers were cancelled because of the leakage of some examination papers during the 2001 - 2002 academic year and just as they were preparing for their final Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations in 2004 - 2005 academic year their teachers decided to embark on a nationwide strike to back their demands for better conditions of service.
