NALAG advocates monthly allowances for assembly members

Begoro, Dec. 17, GNA- The National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), advocated the introduction of monthly allowances for assembly members in the country.

Mr George Aboagye, the Eastern Regional representative of NALAG, made this known when he addressed the Fanteakwa District Assembly at Begoro. He said NALAG as the mouthpiece of the assemblies, has made gains by fighting for the ex-gratia award for assembly members over the years. Mr Aboagye called for a review of the current ex-gratia of 100 Ghana cedis paid to assembly members at the end of their service to the assemblies.

He urged the assemblies to establish welfare schemes for members. During an open forum, the assembly members complained of inadequate sitting allowances paid to them and appealed to the government to grant them loans for the purchase of motorbikes to facilitate their work.
