The National Organiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has called on the largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to organize an emergency congress to elect a new flagbearer.

He stated that the former President showed gross disrespect to Ghanaians during his presidency.

According to Nana B, the comments being made about the running mate for the NPP, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to the effect that he is arrogant, must be disregarded and treated with disdain because the assertions are not factual and do not represent the character of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

The National Organiser argued that the boldness, confidence, and competence of the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South and Minister for Energy may be misconstrued by the general public, especially members of the opposition party.

Nana B added that every human being has weaknesses, thus making them vulnerable to societal pressures; however, he stated that the assertion being made that the running mate is arrogant is a misguided statement by the opposition party.

In an interview on Peace FM's Midday News on Friday, July 5, 2024, Nana B said, "I keep saying that Napo's boldness, assertiveness, and confidence may be misconstrued as arrogance. No, he is just confident and bold. He has excellent work ethic. His work ethics make him one of the best Education Ministers Ghana has ever had."

"The NDC can never question NAPO's competence. They can never say that he is not presentable. The only thing they can say about him is that he is an arrogant man when they don't agree with him on certain statements he makes. If that is what the NDC will base their judgment on, then they have to organize an emergency congress to select another flagbearer because former President John Mahama has insulted more Ghanaians than any other leader in the history of Ghana's politics," Nana B stated.

Nana B's statement comes on the heels of a comment made by the Deputy Communications Director for the NDC, Arko Gunn, who stated that the newly endorsed running mate is arrogant and will pose a challenge for the NPP in terms of marketing their candidate.

In contrast to the NDC's assertion, Nana B posits that the comment from the NDC is unwarranted.

Outlining the competencies of the running mate, Nana B stated that the opportunities NAPO brings to the table concerning the December elections are enormous.

Nana B avers that the sterling leadership qualities possessed by NAPO will play a significant role in assisting the flagbearer, both of whom have a very good working relationship that goes beyond the boundaries of politics.

"His sterling leadership style led to the implementation of the free SHS, which saw an unprecedented turnout of students enrolling in the educational program. He also handled the Energy sector with excellence and precision. This is the leadership NAPO brings to the table. Both running mates have been Education Ministers before, but the laurels chalked by NAPO outnumber those of Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang," Nana B said.
