According to political analyst Alex Emmanuel Nti, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s words have increased his popularity, notwithstanding his negative comments regarding Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
The political strategist noted that, while Ghanaians are dissatisfied with the former Energy Minister’s political statement, he has managed to establish his name in the political space.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said the comments were unfortunate and needless, but they have worked to NAPO's advantage.
“It’s true that NAPO has disappointed many individuals. His statements about Nkrumah were bad, but politically, this is a plus for NAPO.
"In terms of political popularity, he now has a good start. Because of the comments he made, his name has grown in popularity, and he is now the talk of the town. People are talking about him, despite the fact that he made some really horrible comments," he said.
He continued "Ghanaians were expecting to hear something positive from him, but he goofed. However, if not for the comments he made, we would not be discussing NAPO. Everywhere you go today, we are marketing NAPO; we are talking about him.
"He is being discussed across the country, and it is making him more popular. We are making his name known to the people.
"Even little children are getting to know him. In terms of political marketing and popularity, it was good that he made the comments. But in terms of winning over the masses, it will be difficult for him.
"To be able to win back the masses to his side, it depends on how he will manage the situation. That is why he has quickly issued an apology. In his apology, he made it look as if he was remorseful for the reckless comments.
"If his apology is accepted by Ghanaians, he would have achieved two things: one, he has become more popular, and two, he has also apologized and Ghanaians have forgiven him.
"His remarks were politically motivated. Dr. Bawumia is controversial and makes statements to spark debate, as NAPO has also done. The apology he offered was the most effective way to mitigate the harmful impact of his words. However, it is extremely beneficial to his marketing efforts."
