NCA authorizes 12 new radio stations

The National Communication Authority (NCA) in the first quarter of this year has granted authorization rights to four new community and eight commercial radio stations, across the country.

A list of the FM Stations compiled by the NCA, made available to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Friday, named Edubeaseman FM 97.5 MHz, at New Edubease; Laura Community Radio Station 88.1MHz, Lawra; Okese Development Association106.5 MHz Ejisu; and Action for Community Transformation 90.9 MHz Wechiau as the community radio stations.

The commercial stations are ABC Communications 96.1MHz at Akim Oda, Best Text Company limited 106.3 MHz at Takoradi and West End Media consult ltd 92.7 MHz Wa.

The rest are Ferpomar multimedia limited 101.5 MHz, Japekrom, Time FM company ltd 105.3MHz, Akumadan, Source FM limited 100.1 MHz, Bawku, XYZ Broadcasting Limited 90.7 MHz, Kumasi; and Crystal Lens Radio 100.3 MHz, Dzodze.

Community broadcasting is non-profit service and is owned and managed by particular communities, to serve the people, in effect, a form of public-service broadcasting, but serves specific communities rather than the entire nation.

Commercial or private broadcasting operators seek profit through advertising and is owned and controlled by private individuals, or by commercial enterprises.
