NCCE, ISD meet women groups

Accra, Sept. 11, GNA - The National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), in collaboration with the Information Service Department (ISD), has met youth leaders of political parties and women groups in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District to deliberate and share ideas for a peaceful atmosphere before, during and after the December 7 election. Addressing the various groups in Tuna, the District Officer of NCCE, Mr Iddi Zakaria, recalled that members of all political parties and the general public should not allow party politics to divide their ranks and family ties.

In a statement issued in Accra by ISD reminded the groups that the leaders for whose sake they saw themselves as enemies were united. The NCCE District Officer advised the political parties that elections were about issues what the parties can offer when voted into power and not violent attacks on personalities. A youth leader of the National Democratic Congress, Mr Maham Sakara, blamed the NCCE for failing to live up to their task by not starting the education campaign early. According to him the programme should have been a continuous exercise from the beginning of the year. He therefore called on government to resource the NCCE adequately to carry out its constitutional duties. For her part, Madam Chioma Saaka of the New Patriotic Party in the district identified gossiping as the main cause of violence in Tuna and advised her colleagues to desist from the practice. 11 Sept. 08
