NCCE holds forum for mothers

Akim Oda (E/R), Nov. 25, GNA- The Birim District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Ms Margaret Konama has urged women to bring forth few children to be able to take good care and educate them to attain higher education.

She was speaking at a forum for mothers at the Akim Oda Government Hospital on Monday, as apart of activities marking the campaign against Child Abuse Day in the Birim South, and organised by the office of the NCCE.

She called for concerted efforts from women to help stamp out all forms of child abuse such as sexual harassment of young girls as well as verbal abuse in public.

Ms Konama appealed to parents not to over-burden their children, especially the girl child, with domestic chores, saying such practices tended to impart negatively on their education.

Ms Margaret Boakye, a Principal Nursing Officer (PNO), Public Health, reminded parents that it was an offence to settle rape or defilement cases out of court and urged them not to hesitate to report such cases to the police. Ms Dora Kwani Asare, a PNO, appealed to the NCCE to have interaction with women often to keep them abreast with their rights and responsibilities.
