A group of NDC members was last night attacked by angry youth who threw stones and other offensive weapons at them in the Asawase constituency in Kumasi.
The assailants numbering about hundred are believed to be NPP sympathizers and allegedly assaulted the NDC region?s organizer Akwasi Abayie, smashing the windscreen of the party van in the process.
The NDC group was returning from a campaign trip at Pakoso a suburb in the constituency.
Narrating the incident to LUV FM Mr. Abayie alleged that NPP officials tried to persuade him not to report the case to the police.
? We went to Asokore Mampong area to campaign with our members and when we were returning about 6.32 pm to our party office we met NPP supporters with Baba Alhaji they were singing and shouting I was driving so I slowed down but they started throwing things like stones at us, in fact somebody gave me a dirty slap and smashed my windscreen.? He said.
Asked how he knew whether those who attacked them were NPP supporters, he replied, ? They were in NPP T-shirts and I saw Baba Alhaji aspiring NPP candidate for Asawase with them.
Quizzed further on what they did to him he said the attackers ?used drums to block the major road so I put the engine office before they came to smash my windscreen.?
?The NPP Constituency organizer came to me and asked me not to report the matter to the police and want the issue to be settled out of the Police station.? he said
?I said no once they have beaten me I have to go to the police station to be issued with a medical report to go to the hospital.? he said
