The National Executive Committee of the NDC has held a marathon meeting to discuss problems which if not properly handled could impact negatively on the forthcoming congress of the party. The meeting, which was held on Tuesday, discussed a committee report on the contentious amendment of the constitution, which will abolish the title of Founder and Leader currently being held by former President Jerry John Rawlings. A protest letter by Mr Haruna Iddrisu, one of the candidates for the position of national youth organiser, against the holding of the youth congress at Prampram also featured prominently on the agenda.
The Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Kofi Attor told the Evening News newspaper that the youth congress originally scheduled to take place at Prampram will be held on Saturday at a venue yet to be decided. Mr Attor debunked rumours that the national congress will not come off because the party is cash strapped.
The upcoming congress will discuss the ideological and future direction of the party as well as reports from the Constitutional Amendment Committee, Political Direction Committee and the National Economic Direction Committee. Positions to be contested for are the Chairman and two deputies, General Secretary and two deputies, National Organiser and a deputy as well as Propaganda Secretary and deputy.
