Ghanacrusader has been informed disqualified opponent of Asawase MP Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka is lacing his boots to contest the 2020 elections as an independent parliamentary candidate.

Massawudu Mubarick and his supporters have maintained their disqualification by the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was unfair and against the democratic tenets of the party.

“Massawudu’s problems are from the headquarters. Officials there have connived with Muntaka to deprive him of the contest. They are in league. Allah will judge all of us,” a strong Kumasi NDC activist observed.

Sources close to Massawudu Mubarick say the party is yet to officially communicate the reasons for his disqualification to him to inform his next line of action.

Strong intelligence indications are that the NDC is on its way out of losing the Asawase seat if the party does not move quickly to restore some sanity and unify factions.

NDC currently has three parliamentary seats in the Ashanti region. They are Asawase, Sekyere Afram Plains and Ejura Sekyedumase.

Party Communication

Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, was declared as NDC Parliamentary candidate for the Asawase Constituency for the 2020 general elections.

The decision followed disqualification of the only other aspirant for the constituency primary, Massawudu Mubarick by the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party.

A release signed by General Secretary of the NDC, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, indicates the decision to disqualify Mr. Mubarick followed acceptance of the report of the Committee for Settlement of Outstanding Disputes (the Doe Adjaho Committee at FEC sitting on Tuesday, 3 September 2019).

The statement reads, “By this decision, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak goes unopposed and for that matter stands elected as the Parliamentary Candidate for the Asewase Constituency.”
