NDC Eyes Oforikrom After Asawase

The National Democratic Congress, buoyed by its victory in the April 21, 2005 Asawase by-election, is targeting other constituencies n the Kumasi metropolis.

The Statesman can report that the NDC?s train next point of call is the Oforikrom constituency, one of the newly-created constituencies carved out of the original Asokwa East constituency.

The constituency has similar features as the Asawase constituency with a high concentration of Ewe and Northern settlers. Sources close to the NDC said that with a little more work by the party, it could spring a surprise in the Oforikrom constituency in the 2008 parliamentary elections or any future elections.

The source said ?there are eleven safe polling stations for the NDC in the constituency and come what may, the party will win in these areas.? The cause of the NDC is further helped by their bitterest opponents, the NPP.

Officials of the party in the Oforikrom constituency are at each others throat and recently a mob allegedly hired by the Member of Parliament, Elizabeth Agyemang, disrupted a meeting of executives of the party office.
