The Vice Chairman of Dr. Bawumia’s 2024 campaign team, Nana Akomea, has accused the NDC Members of Parliament of endangering Ghana’s democracy.
Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' show on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, Nana Akomea argued that Ghana’s democracy is anchored on the Judiciary being the arbiter of legal disputes.
He portrayed the Judiciary as the “old lady” in Ghana, ensuring peace and stability and upholding the country's democracy, especially where there is political tension, as is currently happening in Parliament where the Minority has assumed the majority position in the House after the Speaker declared some seats vacant.
This role and authority of the Judiciary, Nana Akomea noted, is entrenched in the Constitution and binds every entity to resort to it for the rule of law to prevail.
He added that all organs of government and agencies are subject to the decision of the Supreme Court on matters of constitutional and legal interpretations.
To disobey the Supreme Court or any court, he stressed, amounts to subversion against the Constitution and throws out the rule of law, thereby risking the country plunging into lawlessness and chaos.
Nana Akomea called on Ghanaians to condemn the NDC's disobedience to the Supreme Court and disregard for its ruling that stays the Speaker's order for the four seats, namely Agona West, Amenfi Central, Fomena, and Suhum, to remain vacant.
