The Communications Officer for National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Awutu Senya West constituency, Cassius Larbi and two others have been remanded by Awutu Bereku district court for removing the posters of Eugene Arhin, the New Patriotic Party(NPP) Parliamentary candidate for the area and the party's flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia which had been posted on DRIP equipment.

The Court presided by Her Ladyship Naomi Konto ordered that the three persons are to kept in police custody five days.

The trio are to reappear in court on Monday 16th September, 2024.

It would be recalled that the NDC flagbearer for election 2024, John Dramani Mahama on September 4, urged Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to instruct the party's parliamentary candidates to remove their campaign posters from equipment procured by the government for the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP).

DRIP is a nationwide initiative focused on enhancing road infrastructure across all 275 constituencies.

During a rally in Yeji in the Pru East District in the Bono East Region, John Mahama said that the DRIP project is funded by taxpayers and should not be used for political promotion.

He emphasised that the equipment distributed under the project belongs to all Ghanaians, not just the NPP.

He demanded the immediate removal of the posters and warned that the NDC would take further action if this issue was not addressed.

“It’s the government’s money, funded by the taxes we all pay—whether you’re NPP, CPP, Christian, or Muslim—everyone contributes. They’ve used those taxes to import earth-moving equipment for road construction, and each district has been allocated some. But now, we’re seeing posters of NPP parliamentary candidates on the DRIP equipment.

“I want to remind Akufo-Addo and Bawumia that they serve the entire country, not just the NPP. The equipment doesn’t belong to the party; it belongs to all Ghanaians.

“No one has the right to place their posters on the DRIP equipment. They must order the immediate removal of these posters, or we’ll be forced to take action ourselves,” he stated.
