-“They are bunch of destructive liars”, she fires back
The diabolical plot by the opposition National Democratic Congress to assassinate the character of Grace Omaboe, affectionately known in the Ghanaian film industry as Maame Dokono, has backfired, exposing the party as “a bunch of destructive liars.”
At a mini rally organised by the NDC in Cape Coast after a Keep Fit Walk on Sunday, a leading activist of the party reportedly told the gathering that Maame Dokono had been arrested in South Africa in a failed cocaine smuggle attempt, and that government was paying huge sums of money to rescue her from the grips of the law.
Since the allegation, which has been proven to be an absolute falsehood, was made, text messages have been flying all over in a deliberate attempt to defame the former NDC member whose defection to the NPP, and subsequent campaign for the flag bearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo, is said to have attracted the wrath of bigwigs in the NDC.
In an interview with a section of the media in Cape Coast yesterday, Maame Dokono described the allegations against her as a wicked attempt by the NDC to tarnish his image.
“The wicked lies they have been circulating against me confirms the fact that the NDC is made up of a bunch of wicked liars who could go to any length to destroy people who don’t share their views at any point in time,” she added.
According to Maame Dokono, she has never been to South Africa before, apart from the fact that she had never travelled outside the country since May, this year, when she visited Germany to take part in a fund-raising activity organised by a Ghanaian women group.
“I spent just one week there and came back, and since then I have been following Nana Akufo-Addo on his campaign train. I have never been to South Africa before, neither have I even seen cocaine before. Even when I was young I did not attempt to engage in cocaine business and how much more will I do that at age 60 when I have enough to take care of my self,” she stated.
Asked what might be the motivation behind the NDC’s plot against her, Maame Dokono had this to say: “I think they feel hurt that I have left the NDC, and that my presence on the NPP campaign train is drawing lots of people, especially the women, from them.”
On the line of action she would take, she simply replied, “I won’t mind them because they have been defeated in their attempt to destroy me. What has happened has added to confirm the extent of wicked liars the NDC can tell to destroy people.”
“It is the same people who attempted to destroy Nana Akufo-Addo by making wild allegation against him, that he had been arrested for possessing drugs while he travelled outside the country at a time he was the Foreign Minister. What they are doing to me has even strengthened me to work harder to ensure their humiliating defeat in the December elections,” Omaboe maintained.
Grace Omaboe further urged the electorate to take her case as an example of the nature of people in the NDC, insisting “they are wicked people who don’t have anything good to offer the country. We need to keep them in opposition for ever because when they return to power, they will destroy all the good policies the NPP government has been implementing.”
