The branch Executive members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Amenfi East Constituency of the Western Region have accused their Regional Chairman, Mr. Michael Aidoo popularly known as Big Aidoo of causing confusion in their area.

This comes after the National Executive Council of the party suspended elections of sixteen Constituencies across the country due to misunderstanding.

The National Democratic Congress, will this weekend go to the polls to elect constituency executives in all 275 but 16 constituencies across the country have been put on hold.

But in Amenfi East Constituency, the branch executives have blamed their Regional Chairman of masterminding the suspension of the elections.

"We cannot comprehend the unfortunate suspension of elections in our Constituency and wish to make it known that the Regional Chairman, Mr. Michael Aidoo, is the cause of all the confusion in the Constituency leading to the present state of affairs", they revealed.

"It is a well known fact that as soon as Mr Michael Aidoo became Regional Chairman, he designed a scheme to ensure that some MPs who he claimed did not support his bid were also kicked out through the Constituency primaries. Amenfi East happened to be one of the Constituencies he targetted", they said.

They revealed that the Regional Chairman failed to suspend their Constituency Vice Chairman, Mr. Kofi Atochie for supporting the NPP party publicly in 2016 elections when a petition was given to the Region.

"In the process he instigated some executives led by Kofi Atochie, the Vice Chairman. It is therefore not surprising that in spite of the numerous acts of indiscipline-one of which happened in the presence of some Regional and National executives- Mr. Kofi Atochie was never sanctioned", they opined.

According to them, the Vice Chairman jubilited with the NPP with his car decorated with calico when final the presidential and parliamentary results were declared and announced that he was hosting a grand victory party in his house.

According to them again, in spite of the activities of Mr. Kofi Atochie which infringe on the NDC Constitution, the Regional Chairman continues to give him the support including calling the petitioners to withdraw the petition for his disqualification to contest the chairmanship position of the Amenfi East Constituency.

They, therefore vowed not to allow their Vice Chairman to contest as the Constituency Chairman and will not be intimidated by their Regional Chairman to allow such infringement of the Constitution of their party to go unpunished.

According to them, the Regional Chairman has done enough damage in the Region but the branch Executives said they are committed and determined more than ever before to ensure discipline and sanity in their party.

PRESS STATEMENT ON THE SUSPENSION OF CONSTITUENCY ELECTIONS IN AMENFI EAST

We cannot comprehend the unfortunate suspension of elections in our Constituency and wish to make it known that the Regional Chairman, Mr Michael Aidoo, is the cause of all the confusion in the Constituency leading to the present state of affairs.

It is a well known fact that as soon as Mr Michael Aidoo became Regional Chairman, he designed a scheme to ensure that some MPs who he claimed did not support his bid were also kicked out through the Constituency primaries. Amenfi East happened to be one of the Constituencies he targetted.

In the process he instigated some executives led by Kofi Atochie, the Vice Chairman. It is therefore not surprising that in spite of the numerous acts of indiscipline-one of which happened in the presence of some regional and national executives- Mr Kofi Atochie was never sanctioned.

Thus, realizing that he has the support of the powers that be, Mr Kofi Atochie and his team, having failed to bring in a candidate through the primaries resorted to forming a 'Skirt and Blouse' campaign team.

It is on record that Mr Kofi Atochie joined hands with the NPP and supported with his pick-up vehicle to cart NPP supporters to transfer their votes from neighbouring Denkyira Constituencies to register in Amenfi East.

On the voting day he took a photo of his ballot paper after casting his vote and announced to those in the queue that he had voted against the NDC candidate.

It is on record that he went to a local FM station to announce the role he played to ensure the victory of the NPP in Amenfi East.

He indeed jubilited with the NPP with his car decorated with calico when final presidential and parliamentary results were declared and announced that he was hosting a grand victory party in his house.

It must be made known that until 2008, Mr Kofi Atookyi was an active member of the NPP who defected to join the NDC. It was for that reason and his dubious loyalty that some NDC members petitioned against him during his bid for the vice chairmanship position in 2015.

In spite of the activities of Mr Kofi Atochie which infringe on the NDC Constitution, the Regional Chairman continues to give him the support including calling the petitioners to withdraw the petition for his disqualification to contest the chairmanship position of the Amenfi East Constituency.

We wish to serve notice that we the youth of the Amenfi East Constituency will not be coerced or intimidated by Mr Michael Aidoo, Regional Chairman to allow such infringement of the Constitution of our great NDC to go unpunished.

Mr Michael Aidoo has done enough damage in the western region and we the youth in Amenfi East are committed and determined more than ever before to ensure discipline and sanity in our great party.
