A National Vice Chairman and Director of Elections of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has said that the party would ride on the back of the unmatched achievements of the Mills/Mahama NDC government for elections 2020 hence it's unacceptable for some flagbearer hopefuls of the party to attack former President John Dramani Mahama.
The National Executive Committee of the NDC sanctioned campaign for flagbearer hopefuls on 2nd August, 2018 ahead of elections 2020.
Following this announcement, some stalwarts of the party including Dr Ekow Spio Garbrah, Prof Joshua Alabi, Mr. Sylvester Mensah and Hon. Alban Bagbin have all formerly written to the General Secretary of the party, expressing interest to run for the high office.
Even though former President John Dramani Mahama is yet to formerly declare his intention to lead the party into the 2020 General elections, some of the flagbearer hopefuls have sought to criticize the former President and blamed him for causing the party's defeat in the 2016 general elections.
But reacting to this on Peace fm's Kokrokoo programme on Wednesday 15th August 2018, Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo cautioned all persons hoping to lead the party against attacks on former President John Dramani Mahama.
He stressed that the party's major campaign strategy going into the 2020 general elections, will be to project and defend the legacies of the NDC under the Leadership of the late former President Atta Mills and President Mahama.
"It is therefore unwarranted for anyone to run down the Former President", he said.
The party has chosen December 7, 2018 for its presidential primaries to elect a flag bearer to lead the party into 2020 general elections.
