NDC Secretaries express worry about utterances

Kumasi, June 7, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC)Secretaries Association in the Ashanti Region have condemned what they said were vilification and lies said by some speakers at the rally to climax the 32nd anniversary celebration of the June 4 uprising.

They said the deliberate attempt to throw dirt and bring into disrepute the hard won reputation of certain personalities gave cause for concern and showed a clear deviation from the valued principles of probity, accountability, integrity and truth.

These were contained in a statement jointly signed by Mr Godwin Dela Larho,Chairman, and Mr Daniel Frempong, Secretary of the Association. It said in the true spirit of June 4, one would have expected nothing but the truth on that platform.

The statement said what emanated from personalities who spoke at the function were just pure lies, insults, selfishness and injustices, the very vices the uprising sought to correct.

The statement said the absence of key people in the NDC at the rally was due to the manner it was organized to serve as a platform to campaign for Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, one of the aspiring presidential candidates of the party.

It said certain personalities had over the years ensured that the flame of June 4 was kept burning and that attacks on these people for their failure to participate in this year's activities was most unfortunate.

The statement reminded those who heaped insults on others that it does not pay to malign innocent people in one's bid to achieve a selfish goal. It advised those whose agenda it is to disintegrate the NDC for reasons best known to them to know that the NDC would come out of the Sunyani conference intact and more united.

The Association said it was confident of President John Atta Mills' confirmation as flag-bearer with Nana Konadu and the former president combining effectively to ensure the total victory for NDC in the 2012 election.
