There is mounting pressure on NDC’s Joseph Yamin to produce other accomplices, including the prime suspect, involved in the gruesome murder of a party member at the Ashanti Regional office.

Family of Wasiu on Wednesday issued a 14-day ultimatum to the former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, accusing him of planned attempts to shield some members of the Hawks, a pro-NDC vigilante group suspected to have committed the crime.

Speaking to newsmen after court hearing on Wednesday the family also blamed the party hierarchy of their long silence over the matter.

The family, however says it will continue to launch series of protests after the 14 day count, including locking up the Ashanti Regional party office located at Amakom in Kumasi.

“…Our problem is Joseph Yamin. He contracted the Hawks to kill Nana Akwasi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman. We have that evidence and we gathered that from the other victim who was also shot. They were even paid a GHC50,000.00 booty. As a family we are giving Joseph Yamin two weeks to produce these criminals”, a visibly angry brother of the deceased told our correspondent in Ashanti Region.

He continued, “He [Yamin] is behind all these. The party has also failed us. They have not done enough on this matter and if we do not hear from them, we will lock up the party office to register our anger. We want to pursue this matter to the latter, we are fed up with the (NDC) party”.

Suspects remanded in custody again

Meanwhile, the Asokwa District Court 4, presided over by His Worship Abass .A. Adam has since adjourned the case to May 7, 2019.

Prosecution told the court dockets were yet to be received from the Attorney General’s office.

The court consequently remanded two suspects, Dauda Ibrahim and Abdul Ganiu, in custody again after prosecution prayed for adjournment.

One of the three, Samuel Agyin, failed to appear in court on health grounds.

Heavily armed police personnel were stationed at the court to maintain law and order.

Background

The suspects are 40-year-old Dauda Ibrahim alias Wayo, Abdul Ganiu, 37, and Samuel Agyin alias Rock who is 32 years old.

The three reported themselves to the regional police last week over the incident that left one dead and one other injured.

Police have also questioned former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Joseph Yamin and a former Chief Executive for the Ejisu Juabeng Municipality, Afrifa Yamoah Ponko.

After questioning, the Police searched Mr Ponko’s residence over reports he had stockpiled arms.

Suspects declared wanted

Police have said four alleged members of the pro-NDC group, the Hawks, are suspected to be behind the attack.

A statement from the police named the suspects as Warrior, Mijinmma, Damos and Abu Taliban.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the four suspects and other accomplices.

They are believed to be the men who invaded the premises of the NDC office on motorbikes shooting indiscriminately.
