NDC Upper West incumbent Chairman booted out

Alhaji Isshaku Malik, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman for Upper West Region, has been booted out.

Alhaji Malik who has been Chairman by popular acclamation since 1992 was defeated together with three other contestants by Mr Matthew Song-Aabo, a 59-year-old Farmer and a Businessman.

Mr Song-Aabo whose victory came as a surprise to many polled 44 votes to beat all other contestants for the position after he was disqualified from contesting the position in his first attempt in the last election.

Abdul-Nasir Saani who was largely tipped to win the race polled 39 votes, incumbent Alhaji Malik; 27 votes, Alhaji Issahaku N. Natornaa, seven votes, and Alhaji Mustapha Zakaria 15 votes.

Alhaji Seidu Bawa pooled 75 votes to be elected First Vice Chairman, while Suleman Musah Ayamga garnered 57 votes to be the Second Vice Chairman.

Their competitors were Kwame Mumuni 47 votes, Samuel K. Suglo 36 votes, Ken Meyiri Kunfa 20 votes and Alhaji Lebee Fred Ahmed 18 votes.

Eric Dakurah, the Regional Secretary, was voted out when he was defeated by Dominic Ziniyel who polled 57 votes as against 42 votes.

Other contestants for the position include Dr Issahaku Munawaru, 20 votes and Chireh Ibrahim Carlos, 14 votes.

In the race for the Deputy Regional Secretary, Alhaji Nurah Danwanaa polled 60 votes to beat his two other contestants Muftau Fasasi, 59 votes and Prosper Puo-Irre, 16 votes.

Adams M. Issahaque won massively with 105 votes to maintain the Regional Organiser position as against the 30 votes polled by his lone contestant Salahudeen Bin Alhassan.

Thomas S. Ngwinbahaara polled 61 votes to win the Deputy Regional Organiser position as against the 28 votes polled by his closest competitor Seidu Mumuni.

The other contestants for the position are Boye Philip nine votes, Bayon Bin Yussif 24 votes, and Yahaya Adams 13 votes.

The Propaganda Secretary position went to Issah N. Kantagyere, who polled 72 votes while Adams Muazu his closest competitor polled 37 votes; Khalid Abdul-Rahman 17 votes and Naah Ernest who managed nine votes.

Eunice Kaminta, the only elected woman among the executives won the Deputy Propaganda race with 82 votes, as against the nine votes polled by Stephen Kpen, 30 votes by Sunkari Osuman and 14 votes by Iddrisu Ansuar-Deen Nanjo.

Prince Razak Abdul-Moomin Tachi polled 76 votes to beat his lone competitor, Joseph N. Natu who polled 58 votes to grab the position of the Regional Treasurer.

For the Deputy Treasurer position, Samba Sunba-Wiera polled 68 votes to beat Dibkuu Ishmael who netted 43 votes and Boro Benjamin who polled 24 votes.

Total number of delegates was 139 out of which 135 took part in the election that was supervised by the Electoral Commission.

Mr Song-Aabo, called for unity in the NDC in order to win the 2016 general election.

He promised to work together with everybody to achieve the vision of the party in the region.

Alhaji Amidu Sulemani, Regional Minister congratulated the newly elected executives and urged them to work hard to unite everybody in the party behind the leadership to enable them prosecute the NDC’s agenda both in and outside the region.
