NDC Would Welcome Pianim if?.

The Deputy Minister of Environment Science and Technology, Dr. Farouk Briamah has stated that the National Democratic Congress would welcome Mr. Kwame Pianim if he decides to join the party.

Speaking at a lecture organised by the Association of Committees for the Defence of the Revolution-ACDR?s in Accra, Dr. Farouk described Mr. Pianim as a pragmatic politician, adding that from his own words, one can tell that Mr. Pianim knows that New Patriotic Party does not stand a chance in the forthcoming General Elections.

Mr. Kwame Pianim who was bared from contesting the 1996 Presidential Elections by a Supreme Court ruling because he was once convicted for treason resigned from the NPP recently for what he called personal reasons.

Dr. Brimah said the NDC is happy that Mr. Pianim has resigned from the NPP and would be ready to have him on their side if he shows interest in working with the government. The Deputy Minister said it is unfortunate that for legal reasons, Mr. Pianim cannot stand for elections in the country. He however praised his prowess as a prolific and internationally acclaimed economist and analyst describing him as a great asset to the nation.

Dr. Briamah said the NDC has a record of having mobilised politicians of all shades and backgrounds, including Nkrumahists, Busiaist and others for the common good of the nation.? Moreover we believe an accomplished politician as he is, he would want to be actively involved in the national political process rather than sit on the bench and observe?, he added.

Quoting Mr. Pianim, Dr. Brimah said the NPP is not pragmatic but rather disorganized and unprepared for this year?s elections. ?I believe he would no doubt want to join a pragmatic, well organised and action prone people like himself, and that must definitely be NDC functionaries and its members.?
