NDC Youth Forum clean Hohoe market

Hohoe, March, GNA - The Hohoe branch of the Youth Forum of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in collaboration with three agencies in Hohoe, undertook a five-hour cleanup exercise in the Hohoe main market on Thursday. The agencies were Zoomlion, Hohoe Municipal Environmental Health Directorate and Association of Market Women. They de-silted gutters and weeded the area in and around the Hohoe market.

Mr. Siki Abibu, leader of the Hohoe North Constituency branch of the Forum, told the GNA that the exercise was in conformity with President John Atta Mills' "clean Ghana in hundred days in office" campaign which coincided with the 52nd independence anniversary activities. He said the indiscriminate dumping of refuse, waste discharge from chop bars, inadequate sanitation bins and the nefarious activities of wee smokers were environmental challenges in the market. He said the Forum's next target would be the Hohoe Abattoir, the Bla public cemetery and the public place of convenience near the Municipal Hospital.

Mr. Samuel Ayittey Ottoo, Hohoe Environmental Health Officer, said sanitation bylaws would be rigidly enforced and urged the public to be particular about issues pertaining to environmental cleanliness. Mama Dzawoe I, market queen of Hohoe, said the market women would now keep the market clean.
