The Electoral Commission (EC) in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam Constituency of the Central Region has come under fire from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which alleges that the EC secretly transferred 3,017 non-resident voters into the constituency’s voter register.

Speaking at a press conference, NDC’s Ajumako Enyan Essiam Constituency Chairman, Prof. Jonathan Annan, claimed that discrepancies were found between the figures in the voters’ register provided by the EC and the NDC’s records.

He alleged that 3,868 voters from Ajumako Enyan Essiam had been transferred to another constituency, while 829 names were missing from the register.

Prof. Annan accused the EC, with backing from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), of attempting to manipulate the upcoming elections in the constituency.

"The NDC in Ajumako Enyan Essiam is demanding that the Electoral Commission immediately delete all names registered secretly in the voters' register," he stated.

The NDC has given the EC a five-day ultimatum to remove the alleged "foreign names" from the voters’ register or face demonstrations.

In interviews with the media, some NDC party members expressed their determination to resist any attempts by the EC and the NPP to influence the election outcome. They vowed to protect the integrity of the ballots and warned those allegedly behind the secret transfers to rectify the situation or face consequences.

"We are focused on winning the upcoming December General Elections with Ato Forson and John Dramani Mahama," they added.
