NDC activists asked not to intimidate political opponents

Juaso (Ash), May 13, GNA - Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been asked not to take advantage of the party's assumption of power to intimidate political opponents.

Mr. De-graft Forkuo, newly elected District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asante-Akim South, who gave the advice said that action would not serve the interest of the party and called on party activists to refrain it. He observed that the people of Ghana gave the party a mandate to serve them so anything contrary to that would mar the party's chances in subsequent elections, stressing that the conduct of party members was crucial to its success. Mr. Forkuo, who was speaking to newsmen soon after his confirmation at Juaso, said the government would not shield party members who hide behind the party to engage in unlawful activities, adding that such people would be made to face the full rigours of the law. On his vision for the district, the DCE, who received 100 per cent endorsement, noted that he would work in close collaboration with all stakeholders to ensure the accelerated development of the district. Mr Forkuo said he would pay particular attention to educational infrastructure to improve on the educational standards, which he said had been low over the years.

He assured the people of the district that the assembly's resources would be evenly distributed across the district for the benefit of the entire population and called on them to rally behind him. 13 May 09
