NDC activists stress party unity for electoral victory

A group of activists of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) are asking elders of the party, without any further delay to unite factions within the party for a hands down victory in Election 2012.

The group is led by Mr. Sidii Abubakar Musah, member of the Friends of Nana Konadu Agyemang- Rawlings (FONKAR), which supported former First Lady Konadu Agyemang- Rawlings to contest President Atta Mills, in his bid to seek re-election as the NDC presidential candidate for Election 2012, at its primaries last year.

Denying any financial or material inducement from the Mills’s camp, Mr Musah admitted to a press conference in Accra that there was an open feud in the party which had been allowed to fester for a long time, and entrenched positions taken had been to the detriment of the party.

Christened, “NDC Activists For Unity at All Costs” (NDC AFUAC), the group said it was speaking for the silent majority who believed that the current happenings within and among the NDC power players had reached the level of pettiness and had the potential to cause the dissolution of the political bands that held party members together.

Mr Musah, flank by a number of NDC Constituency Organisers in the Greater Accra Region, and Mr Isakka Adom, also formerly of FONKAR , said he was aware of the consequences of the action to lead the crusade to forge unity between President Mills and Former President Jerry Rawlings and Former First Lady Rawlings.

The group gave the party Chairman Dr Kwabena Agyei a two-week ultimatum, to expire on June 14, 2012, to team up with other concerned interests in the party to initiate moves to get all who mattered around the table for the peace and unity in the party.

“Even as we anticipate a meeting within this ultimatum given to the elders, we plan next to organise a political durbar by June 28 that will bring all the major players as well as the supporters within the party under one umbrella with the hope of advancing this unity agenda.

...We stand for unity within the NDC at all costs. Let’s move beyond the arguments of who is wrong and who is right... Now is the time to move beyond our entrenched positions and face one common enemy- the opposition NPP. We in the NDC cannot continue to give the NPP a laugh,” the NDC AFUAC said.

The AFUAC stated that it shall soon mass up its numbers and who ever believed in its cause, on the streets and in the offices and homes of the party elders and power players involved, to let the elders act decisively.**
