General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has admonished Chiefs to stay off politics for their own good.
Addressing the media at the party’s headquarters in Accra, Asiedu Nketia noted that chiefs who participate actively in politics suffer when the party they support goes out of office.
“Chiefs who have sought to defy this provisions and they’ve gone all out in support of one political party and have come out to be banning the operatives of another political party from campaigning in their territories and so on, when government change, they run into difficulties,” he stated.
He admonished chiefs not to be involved in politics, which can go a long way to tarnish their image as well as destroy their integrity.
“Politics has rules of the game, and chieftaincy equally has its own rules of the game... so if you decide to participate in politics, then you must play by the rules of politics,” he said.
Asiedu Nketia who praised chiefs for their contributions in developing the country and their involvement in promoting democracy added that that shouldn’t be a reason for them to tarnish their image by supporting political parties in their evil deeds.
He, however, noted that those who decide to get involved in politics should be ready to play by the rules.
