Activists and the rank and file of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) had been entreated to rally support for the party’s elected parliamentary candidates.

Mr. Raymond Tandoh, Ashanti Regional Secretary of the party, said the party had presented “a formidable team of tried and tested candidates capable of advancing the NDC’s cause of retaining power in the 2016 General Election”.

“We have confidence in the elected candidates, most of them bringing on board diverse experiences and the requisite knowledge to help the party win next year’s polls”, he told the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Sunday.

The NDC went to the polls at the weekend to elect parliamentary candidates and endorse President John Dramani Mahama as the Flagbearer for the 2016 elections. It was supervised by the Electoral Commission.

Of the 47 constituencies in the Ashanti Region, 14 candidates went unopposed in the parliamentary elections which saw more than 190, 000 voters casting their ballots.

With the exception of the Manhyia North and South, Ejura, Ejisu, Drobonso, Agona, Bosomtwe, Asante-Akim, Obuasi-East and New Edubiase constituencies, where elections took place on Sunday, the other NDC constituencies voted on Saturday.

This was necessitated by insufficient presidential and parliamentary materials, late arrival of the materials and incomplete compilation of the party’s voters’ register.

Mr Tandoh in congratulating the winning candidates urged them to liaise with all and sundry to achieve the party’s objective.
