Koforidua, Nov. 22, GNA - A founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sheikh Ibrahim Osumano Zabah has called on the Government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to apologise to public service workers over the cut in their salaries this year. He said it was sad that the cut in the salaries came a month after the salaries had been increased, yet the Government was not bold and frank enough to tell the workers the truth and lied to them that the cut was due to faulty computers, yet months had passed and the cut had not been restored.
Speaking at the New Juaben North NDC Constituency rally at Effiduase, near Koforidua, on Sunday, Sheikh Zabah called on workers to vote for NDC and push out a government that "does not respect its workers."
The National Organiser of NDC, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, accused the NPP of abuse of incumbency by using funds of the District Assemblies and the Regional Coordinating Councils to organize political rallies for the NPP Presidential candidate and Parliamentary candidates under the guise of regional tours of the President.
He told the youth that they had no future under the NPP Government and urged them to vote for NDC to get the NPP out of office. Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said after almost four years in office, the NPP Government could not come out with a youth policy and had merged the Ministry of Youth and Sports with another big Ministry like Education so that issues of the youth had been marginalized.
He said it was no surprise that the achievements of the country in sports under NPP had been complete disaster.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo, who introduced the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for New Juaben North, Mr Frank Frimpong Mensah-Boateng, to the electorate repeated that the NDC would win in seven out of the 10 Regions, saying "even in the remaining three regions, the NDC would share the votes with NPP by winning 30 per cent of the votes in Ashanti Region, the strong hold of NPP."
The Eastern Regional Secretary of the NDC, Mr Anthony Gyampoh, claimed the NDC had more supporters and sympathizers than any political party in the country and appealed to the electorate to come out in their numbers on Election Day to vote the Party to victory.
The Constituency Chairman of the Party, Mr Kobena Oduro Owusu Boahene, on behalf of the executives of the branch apologized to all those who were wronged in the constituency and for that reason decided to vote against the Party in 2000 and appealed to them to vote for NDC this year and join the victory celebrations of the Party.
Mr Mensah-Boateng said his decision to participate in the elections was to offer himself to serve his people and pledged that if he won the elections, he would pursue policies that would unite the people and his office would be opened to all people in the constituency, irrespective of their political affiliations.
