NDC calls on former Ministers, MPs, DCE, PVOs to join campaign

Koforidua, Aug. 31, GNA- The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Thursday called on its former Ministers, Members of Parliament and members of the Progressive Voluntary Organizations (PVOs) to go to their constituencies to join the party's campaign to explain the achievements of party to the electorate.

The Eastern Regional Organizer of the party, Mr Tawiah Boateng made the call at a press briefing at the regional office of the party in Koforidua during on-going training programme being run for constituency organizers in the region.

He said this was the time for all people who belong to the NDC family to demonstrate their commitment to the party by reminding the electorate what the party was able to achieve when it was in government. This, he said would counter lies being peddled by the government to falsely belittle the achievements of the NDC.

Mr Boateng appealed to former members and executive members of the party who were aggrieved in the past to forgive and forget and take the opportunity to join the last lap of the party to victory in 2008. He said Ghanaians are patiently waiting for the government of the NDC under the leadership of Prof. John Evans Atta Mills in 2008 to put in place the social democratic policies of the party that would place the interest of the poor, workers and farmers of the country at the centre of its economic programmes.

Mr Boateng explained that, it was the responsibility of any government to use the taxes of the country to provide roads, schools, good drinking water and other social services to the people.

He said it took a government with vision to come out with time tested policies that could propel the country forward, adding that the former government of NDC needed to be credited for the introduction of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) and the Value Added Tax (VAT), which was now helping the NPP government to raise much revenue for its development programmes.

Mr. Boateng called on students to vote for the NDC under the leadership of Prof Atta Mills to power in 2008 to enable the party to institute educational policies that would provide a level playing field that would enable the youth from both the rich and poor families to have access to education to any level of their choice.

This, he said, would stop the system where only children from rich homes could afford to read certain courses at the universities.
