Accra, Nov. 16, GNA - Mr Raymond Osei Akoto, the Computer Scientist who could not file his papers as an Independent Presidential Candidate for Election 2004 on Monday described the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the only credible party that could take Ghana out from the doldrums.
He told the Ghana News Agency on Monday, "The Electoral Commission did not allow me to file my papers when I wanted to stand, but I have realized that the NDC indeed has something to offer so I decided to back them".
Speaking at the Dadekotopon Constituency rally at La Olympia in Accra, Mr Akoto said the NDC was an alternative viable Party that would make the country not to tilt to a one party state
"The NDC tolerates and shows fairness to diverse ethnic groups, therefore, reliable enough to bring the hopes of Ghana into fruition. "Ghana's democracy needs strong opposition and attempts to kill the NDC would fail."
He screamed from the platform, "NDC will win the election!" Nii Amasah Namoale, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Dadekotopon, asked the electorate to vote him into Parliament so that he would work with them to restore the dignity and respect that the Dadekotopon used to enjoy.
He said it was unfortunate that La in particular had seen very little development since the NDC lost the seat in the constituency. "Now, everything has brought out the difference between the NDC and the NPP. And I promise you we would reverse the situation when I get to Parliament", he said.
Nii Namoale said the portion of La Poverty Alleviation Fund, which had been kept in the banks and was being disbursed under political considerations, would be judiciously used without recourse to political affiliations.
He said when voted to Parliament he would mobilise and unite the Chiefs and people of the area towards forging a common purpose to develop and restore the area lost dignity.
Nii Namoale promised to revive the student's scholarship scheme initiated by Mr Sylvester Mensah, former NDC MP of the area, and said such a programme would not be politicised.
Mr Mensah told the people to remain steadfast because what was more important was the realisation of the mistake the people made when they voted the NPP into power.
"The past four years have been a test case for us as a Party, and this is the time that we have to demonstrate that we really love the NDC by voting massively to return it to power.
