NDC constituency Chairmen call for ceasefire

Accra, Sept. 19, GNA - The Confederacy of Constituency Chairmen of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Greater Accra has expressed "absolute disgust" at the infighting within the top hierarchy of the party and called for a ceasefire.

In a statement issued in Accra on Monday, the Confederation said it was of the view that intra-party misunderstanding should be dealt with within the corridors of the party, as supporters would use the party's constitution to address all pertinent issues.

"We advice any top executive worth his sort to resort to diligent circumspection, especially when it comes to matters concerning the well being of the party," it said.

Mr Danny Annang, Ledzokuku, Mr Eddir Doku, Tema East and Mr Ozigi, West Wuogon signed the statement.

A recent interview granted by Dr Tony Aidoo to an Accra-based radio station had triggered a reaction from the National Executive Council, which had summoned him to appear for questioning. The chairmen noted that the NDC could not belong to any specific group and they would therefore not countenance any person or group of persons "bringing their inflated egos and parochial interest to bear on the party".

"It is imperative for all to know that the party rests in 230 pillars, which are the constituencies, where actual party work is done and we pray that the in-fighting will cease forthwith so that the various chairmen and their hardworking executives at the grassroots will have leverage to work for the good of the party."

The chairmen urged pro-NDC newspapers to be circumspect in their reportage and advised all pro-NDC serial callers into radio programmes to desist from insults and character assassination.
