Some persons who surrounded former President John Dramani Mahama in the lead-up to the 2016 elections and took advantage of him and failed to use resources given to them to work to ensure victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, former Greater Accra Regional Minister, has said.
According to him, Mr Mahama personally gave out monies and resources to some people to campaign, however, these persons failed to channel those resources into the campaign, contributing to the party’s defeat in the polls.
Speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom, on Accra100.5FM on Friday March 24, Mr Afotey Agbo, who is also Member of Parliament for Kpone Katamanso, said: “People took advantage of the fine man John Dramani Mahama. Instead of taking the initiative to do things right and work, they decided to choose their own way.
“They took advantage of the good and fine man to misbehave, because I know the president gave out money for the work to be done but they chose to do what they did. Party members who held positions were given monies to work, they didn’t lack anything, they were not deprived of what they needed, but they chose their own way with those monies and misbehaved.
“For me this is not the time for us to blame people. As I speak to you I don’t have anybody in mind that I am mad at. I think we all have to learn our lessons, because all the wrong things that happened to those at the top level also happened at the grassroots. The grassroots were also not behaving well, so it is about everybody’s contribution for us losing.”
