The NDC has endorsed Jonathan Tackie Commey as its Parliamentary candidate for the forthcoming by-election in the Odododiodio constituency.
The election is slated for August 30th.
Party officials say the other aspirant Walid Laryea accepted to step aside after several appeals by high ranking members of the party, including the 2004 Presidential candidate, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills.
But Walid Laryea?s supporters who had gathered since morning at the party headquarters openly expressed their bitterness at what they described as the frustration of their candidate?s ambitions.
The Acting General Secretary of the NDC, Bede Zieding told JoyNews the functional executives? decision was the best considering a legal suit filed against Walid Laryea.
?We came to this consideration because it became very obvious that in the first place Walid could not contest on the ticket of the NDC as a result of a writ filed against the party and his candidature. In the circumstances therefore, we were left with a sole candidate. So the functional executive committee relied on its residual powers under article 49 of the NDC constitution to endorse the candidature of Mr. Tackie Commey?, he said.
