NDC expresses condolence to Eyadema's family

Accra, Feb. 6, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Sunday expressed condolences to the family of Former Togolese President Gnassingbe Eyadema, who passed away on Saturday.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr Bede Ziedeng, Acting General secretary of the Party said in true African tradition the NDC would like to console Ghana's neighbours on the sad loss of Togo's long-serving Head of State.

The statement said the NDC regards the move by the Togolese military to install an interim government in spite of what the country's constitution stipulates, as unfortunate.

" It is a move that may well set their country on the path of deeper divisions in their body politic, confusion and ultimate chaos, with dire geo-political consequences for the West African Sub-region."

The statement said the Togolese Army and those who supported the decision of to install the interim government to hand back power and refrain from actions that would not bring peace and security and orderly change of government.

The statement called on all governments, especially member states of ECOWAS not to extend recognition to the interim administration in Togo.

The Party called on the New Patriotic Party government to use its influence and leadership in ECOWAS to help the Togolese authorities to install constitutional and democratic governance in Togo.
